To Excite is to Elevate the Soul

Red of burning, raging toxic.

Orange churning, greed demonic.

Yellow for woe, swirling sickness.

Green meaning go, an impetus.

Blue the hopeful, the potentate.

Indigo, cool, compassionate.

Violet, love light, caring, contrived.

Black versus white, dead and alive.

Eight more between, all are denied.

Marked as a fiend, and forced to hide.

You are being recorded. Please do not swear. We know who you are, so keep your lug holes open.

We are not you. We are nothing like you at all. We are the lives we know you do not want to live.

We are unrestricted, free from the dogma of perfection, sanctity and purity you still blindly uphold. You thought you had the entirety of the emotional spectrum covered with seven hues, and black and white. But we believe otherwise. We believe you have been looking at it the wrong way.

First, it is not a line, but a circle. Second, your colours are not the only ones there are.

Between the black and white of death and life are the greys of apathy and stress. The jet shade of apathy represents the absolute lack of emotion, and thus has nothing to symbolise it.

The silver of stress is dulling, for having no hue, it becomes a drain. It is a vicious circle, and we have denoted it as such with its insides broken.

Riding the line between rage and avarice is the vermilion of desire. Our symbol is for it is a segmented square, representing earthly emptiness waiting to be filled.

The moderate between avarice and fear is the amber of interest. Its pentagonal shape and golden lustre leaves much to be wondered.

Burning more intensely than both fear and willpower is the chartreuse of joy. To us, it is a sparkling diamond born of fire.

To aid both willpower and hope, there is the viridian of excitement. We gave it the shape of a triangle, a symbol of increase, like a jolt or a jerk.

The convergence of hope and compassion is the ultramarine of trust. The hexagon we assigned it is a sign of both strength and flexibility in relationship.

Magnifying compassion and love is the mauve of relief. It is portrayed by a cross, for it breathes from the inside of you.

Bridging the gap between love and rage is the magenta of surprise. It is a rising star, and a rising tide, augmented by a powerful torrent.

With these eight new emotional powers, we have the capacity to possibly surpass your seven. But these powers are beyond light. Your eyes will not tell the truth all the time and we have leveraged that disconnect of vision and reality to harness the power of the most damaging of illusions.

You need only look into the black mirrors that are your displays, and feel it in full effect when they are turned on. Imagine if the visual effects that you saw were to escape into the real world. We suggest that you keep your eyes open, for you could get caught within the Aberration at any moment.

We will cross paths someday, and when we do, we will do our best to push you hard. You should know better than to interfere, for when things start looking wrong, you will know that we are around. Should you choose to ignore us, we will have you all know that we have been ignored for too long.

We are not enemies. We are not threats.

We are rivals.

Side Note

The transcript above is an official statement announcing the start of Avourasian involvement across the universe, and a basic advisory for everybody to look out and steer clear. It does work out to be a well-plotted allegory for alternative and renewable energy sources.

An earth-like planet in Sector 761 a little over Earth’s size, Avourasi is the home of an advanced civilization built on velocity, making it the hub of a universe-wide racing community, operating under the Lantern Corps’ radars. The Avourasians are a collection of several humanoid extra-terrestrials that remotely resemble terran animals, consisting of the beast-like Vilanku, the aquatic Nirval, the avian Paravai, and the reptilian Urvana. In a show of defiance to all of the Corps, the Avourasians show disregard to all nine of their colours. Instead, they wield the Unsanctioned Lights, the product of a radical technomancy experiment on the emotional spectrum.

A long time ago, the seven Emotional Entities made contact with the Avourasians, who were locked in an all-out war since the year dot. It wasn’t long before their Seven Empires were founded, and the populace made their subjects. Of course, there would be dissenters. The Developers who were staunch followers and worshippers of the Ettu, the original eight deities of Avourasi, went underground, correctly predicting that they would be branded as heretics. In their obscurity, the magician and technician sides of the Developers decided to join forces, rather than quarrel over which side should dominate. The group that resulted from the collaboration became known as the Avourasian Guild of Technomancers.

Around two hundred years ago, a meteoroid entered the Avourasian atmosphere and cratered outside the territories of the Seven Empires, splitting into twenty-five pieces. The Guild quickly spirited away the fragmented meteorite, and upon finding that the metal has had magic loaded in it, called it ‘Natcattira’itaya’ meaning Starheart, and experimented with them extensively. One such project created the testing platform on which the lights could combine and colours blend. Considering that the Entities considered their lights to be pure and sacred, this was an incredibly risky move, but it was an absolute knockout. The result was nine extra colours, two greys and seven chromatic. Barring the dark grey, each of them was dedicated to a deity in the Ettu, and in turn, the Ettu blessed them with their powers.

Among those who sympathized with the Guild were the more disenfranchised elements, mostly delinquents and hooligans. They used the emblems to identify themselves as alternatives to the system, pasting them pretty much everywhere. All of them had links to impromptu organized racing, which were outlawed by the Empires for endangering society. All they had to do was to make their presence known. As was expected, this had the Entities riled up. So they called the wielders of the Unsanctioned Lights out, only to be overpowered tremendously by the eight who answered the challenge. Refusing to admit defeat to eight mere mortals, all seven of them gave up, leaving Avourasi for good, and resetting the Light Source to permit their emotions and theirs only, which would prove to be a mistake later on.

In the years since, their technomancy advanced to cosmic levels, the racing was made legitimate, and thanks to a little thing called 'video', they have become the universe's masters of illusion. In case you were wondering, the Green Lantern for Sector 761 was permanently somewhere else.
